Jacobsen Junior mower

Dad and I got his Jacobsen Junior self propelled reel mower running again tonight. It was built in the 1920's. It has only run about 3 times in the last 50 years, last time was about 20 years ago.

He picked this up when he was a kid on a family trip to Wisconsin in about 1954. They disassembled it and put it in the trunk of the car to get it home. He got it running and made a cart to stand on behind it when mowing.

We repaired the fuel system, filed the points and fired it up tonight. It runs great. I am thinking about sharpening it up and having Vicki mow the grass around the house with it next summer.:rof:

Just tell her that if she wants to take the Model A for a drive... :hide:

What engine is on that mower?

Gayle used one something like that when we lived in Colorado. It didn't have the cart to ride on either and I never had to get it running because it didn't have a motor!:rof:

Mark, it has a Jacobsen engine on it. We also have a larger one in the back shed that may get revived soon.

s.d. jon-It is probably a good thing the reel mower you had did not have an engine. Less damage done by Gayle. I have seen seen the witness marks from accidents Gayle has had with outdoor power equipment. I remember a certain green mark on you black garden tractor. Did your push mower have accidents? I wouldn't doubt she hit stuff with that also.:rof:

Vicki hasn't used the Jacobsen Junior to mow the lawn yet and she was already complaining. Dad and I caved in and got the Gravely out for her so she could ride when she mows.
Here I am giving it a test drive this afternoon. At least she can ride this one and she will not have to crank it to start it.

Pete,
Load em both up on the "A" and advertise. You've got a real nice lawn care business going with all that equipment !

That gives me ideas for the two old B/S engines I got from the shed at Grandpas. Need to see if they run, but one has a gear reduction on it already.. one to mow, one to drive?

Pretty neat Pete! Nice to see these vintange [ok, OLD] items running!
