Photos and Photobucket

A while ago photos in topics were all visible when logged in. Nowadays you often see only a Photobucket logo stating: upgrade to..... and a site link to Photobucket.com/p500. Doing so brings you to the Photobucket site where you're asked to register, but after doing this it brings you no further at all.
Question: how can one still see the photos or is this only after subscribing (and paying) a monthly fee?

Actually it is kind of a lousy thing that Photobucket did. They changed their policy that in order to have a photo embeded on a site, the owner of the photo must upgrade to a paid account that allows that. If I recall it was a fairly expensive yearly rate to do that. So there is nothing you can do as a viewer to see them, it would have to be that the original poster would need to pay the fee to allow their photo to show. I know several of my posts are that way here on the forum. Had I known that would happen, I sure would not have been using Photobucket. Originally we all used offsite photo hosting to keep the Forum owners from having to have such huge storage requirements to host photos.
I know that if I could go back and edit my old posts I would replace the photos that are affected by this with the same ones stored somewhere else.

I believe Darren has is correct about Photobucket's change. I am not impressed with the change. Even if we could edit old posts, I don't remember which pictures got used where in some cases.

Correct all around! I have pics on many different forums... hundreds of them, including this one. Photobucket wants $400 out of me to allow off site hosting. NOT going to happen. I did have a paid account there for photo storage and limited ads, but that will be going away as well after my subscription expires.

On the good side... New photos CAN be hosted here and are very easy to upload. There is no longer concern over server space with our new platform. One of these days I'll make a new thread on posting photos here and get rid of the old off-site hosting one.

Sorry... but it was beyond our control.

Thanks for the reply. It is clear to me that I cannot do anything to view the photos as I could before. Pitty but true.
