Original Steamer Photos

Center Crank Case Threshing.jpg
Another Case center crank look at the large differential gear on the rear right side of the engine

Best Cultivating.jpg
This is a Holt steam engine photo probably taken in California looks like they're pulling a harrow or drag probably prepping the soil for planting

Cook Car Threshing.jpg

Hard to tell what the engine is I'm guess a Gaar Scott . This is a complete threshing scene with cook cars, water wagons, bundle wagons, and the threshing machine

Buffalo Pitts Plowing.jpg

35hp Buffalo Pitts. This is a lot like the late Daniel Andersons engine that was at Rollag for a number of years.

The Minneapolis with the flat top dome would be a pre 1916 engine, probably a 22 or 25 hp. I would have to believe that the awesome Bridsall on the end would have been pushing the other engines!
I'm kinda partial to the 25 hp. Just sayin. And I'm with Ned on this one. That old Birdsall is just scrap. "Lookit how pretty the shiny Minneapolis is!"

Ned... How did you come by all of these photos? Have you been collecting them for years, or did you get a collection somewhere! Very interesting pictures!

I have been collecting for years. My wife considers it an addiction :Shrugs: and it's hard to stop but I keep gathering them. I'm glad everyone likes them I'll try posting more this week.
If anyone sees a photo they really like let me know and I can send a high resolution to your email this goes for anyone on the show book committee too. I just kinda figured posting them on here was one of the best ways to preserve them and show them off as some are getting pretty fragile being over 100yrs old. It's also a great way to teach others what to look for to identify different brands or types of engines maybe they have an old photo of an engine that was in their family and they're not sure what type it is.
If anyone else has any old photos please feel free to post them on here I've seen all of mine and would really enjoy seeing others photos.

Ned

RF Large Straw Stack.jpg

I was thinking Minneapolis return flue but the head tank isn't right for a Minneapolis. So this one is up for guesses I'm leaning toward Gaar-Scott. If someone know for sure let me know

RF Minneapolis High.jpg

Another Minneapolis return flue and I think an early Victory separator. This is an extremely early Minneapolis set up Minneapolis was founded in 1887 this photo was probably taken around 1890-1900

Threshing Crew.jpg

Here's a tandem compound center crank Case. You can make out the cylinder centered with the steam dome on the boiler this engine would have had twin fly wheels too. Notice that there's no eagle on the smoke box door either. No all Case engines had Old Abe on the front! You will notice that there's a circle on the smoke box door that was to "help" control the draft the door in also hinged to swing up and be held by that rod.

Two Cylinder.jpg

Twin cylinder Buffalo Pitts. This is probably the same size as the one at WMSTR

Reeves Steam Plow 2.jpg

I always thought that this was an early 32hp Reeves. But a friend of mind (who owns a double simple 32 Reeves and a Canadian 32 Reeves) was telling me that it's more likely a 25hp Reeves due to the 'smaller" front wheels and a few other details. pulling a steam lift plow with the rear tender taken off the engine and placed on the plow probably for better vision anyone that has been on a Reeves with the rear tender knows what I mean

Port Huron.jpg

Port Huron working in the cold as the man on the engine looks to be pretty well bundled up and some with the child by the rear wheel. This is Port Huron's standard length boiler the one that is a WMSTR is the "long fellow" style boiler where the boiler is a few feet longer than the standard. Also you can see that Port Huron's had some form of lugs on the rear wheels compared to how worn down the ones are on the Port own by the show

Road Engine .jpgThis is a Buffalo Pitts road locomotive. 50hp? You can just make out the Buffalo decal on the side tank. also noticed this engine doesn't have a fly wheel for belt work this engine was only meant to haul heavy loads. I believe this one is hauling a bridge beam. I can only guess the gears by the smoke stack have something to do with winching. Also neat thing is this engine has a license plate by the smoke stack were you can see the numbers 708

Well Ned said others could post if you had something. Just don't want to high jack this thread

20171129_175236.jpg

This is the two options of the Russell 150. Picture is not that good, it is of a picture we had framed and have hanging in our house. If you zoom in you can see some of the detail a little better. You will notice the road engine has a much smaller flywheel that does not get used for belt work.

I have a picture that hasn't been scanned of a 150 Russell in Washington state.
Great photo keep them coming like I said I've seen all of mine and enjoy seeing others photos
