CAT On A Stick

With all the projects going on out at the Hill, there was another one that is moving along also. Wimpy and I previously built a stand that is dubbed 'The Cat on a Stick'. On top of this stand we will be positioning the shows' Caterpillar D2 crawler for advertising for The Sandbox area.

Friday night we drilled 2 large holes, then set the stand in the holes. On Saturday mid-morning, when the other concrete projects were finished, the truck came up and we filled the holes with concrete. We will let this cure for 2-3 weeks before we set the D2 on top.

That stick is a lot taller than I had imagined. It is going to be an impressive display! A fitting place for a forgotten Cat to spend a few years.

I am impressed with how the stick lines up with the county road. You fellows must have spent a lot of time chosing the location. About the time a person who is heading south from #10 comes over the hill, they should be able to see the Cat straight in front of them.

Later,
Jerry Christiansen

Made me laugh too Josh, Maybe it should be Cat on the sticks. Anyway, there will be other stuff before we get done that will be put on the sticks.
Oh by the way Keven, your a funny guy.
Jerry, you can credit lining it up with Hiway 32 to Wimpy!!! He is a clever dude.

A very interesting project and eye catching when done, I guess it will be painted CAT YELLOW, is that a good guess.:gathering:

We will be posting some pictures this week but, Tim D may have a treat for all of you.Go ahead and post away Tim.

This past weekend, Wimpy, Louie, Jane & I, were able to get the D2 up in the air. Thank you to Joe from Borsheim Crane Service for making this safe and easy. Here are a few photos of the process.

Congrats to you guys for getting this completed! I cannot wait to see it coming from Hwy 32 north of the grounds when I go out there this weekend!

Thanks for taking the great pics Jane... and for sharing!

I have a couple more to add that Clayton and Jane didn't cover, just for fun!

This one just because it is Wimpy being Wimpy!

Here's one of Clayton unhooking the rigging after the CAT was in new permanent location.

And Clayton couldn't resist one last turn in the drivers seat. Hope Wimpy (in the background) gets it bolted down before Clayton pulls the wrong lever!

This seems a fitting end for a long time piece of WMSTR owned equipment. I used this little D2 when I was building the loading dock 10 years ago and it ran great, but sometime after that it had water added to it and the anti-freeze was forgotten. It wasn't checked before "hard water" season and the damage was CATastrophic (pun intended!)... but the little Cat lives on in a place of honor on our show grounds.

We some one to take on the painting of the cat on a stick. No sandblasting needed, the hood blew off and is on the ground. Grainger has Caterpillar old hiway yellow available for this.
It will stand out much better if we get this done early this year.

Id be happy to paint the Cat Clayton. Ill talk with you next time I see you.
